Kool-aide mix being stirred into water. Cologne or perfume permeating the air in a room. It starts strong on side A but within time one can smell the scent on side B of the room because the molecules of cologne have diffused throughout the air. The molecule attempt to move from areas of high concentration, side a, to areas of lower concentration, side B, and the process of diffusion continues until the entire room boasts a constant concentration.
A main use of diffusion is in the exchange of oxygen into muscles from the blood cells in the blood stream. This relates the structure and function of muscle tissues and fibers and diffusion to our daily life. The more oxygen surrounding the muscle tissue, the greater the rate of diffusion of oxygen into the muscle tissue. This lends to the importance of the structure of the muscle tissue and the set up of blood vessels. Muscle fiber is created to be long and have capillaries surrounding each fiber. Blood carrying oxygen enters the capillaries and flows parallel to the fibers, diffusing its oxygen while flowing down the capillary. Thus with the elongated muscle and web of capillaries, there is more surface area available for diffusion. If more blood containing oxygen is around the muscle then more oxygen will be transferred. Inhibiting bodies in the blood stream will slow the diffusion rate of oxygen to the muscle. An example of this is cholesterol. Cholesterol in the blood stream would have an adverse effect on the circulatory system in the body and would inhibit the transfer of oxygen to the muscles and other tissues of the body.Without diffusion our muscle would be unable to be supplied oxygen and therefore unable to function.
Examples of precipitation in your daily life include rain, snow, sleet, and hail. Non-examples would be activities such as cooking, reading a book, or exercising, as these activities do not involve any form of precipitation.
