Advantages of Square Metre Method
It relies on architect's sketch drawings.
It relies on the gross floor area of the building plan.
It is much faster to produce than a Bill of Quantities.
The current building index can be incorporated in the estimate.
Estimates are based on past similar projects.
-- Find the square root of 4,321.-- It begins with 65.7...-- So the smallest perfect square greater than 4,321 must be (66)2.-- (66)2 = 4,356 .-- 4,356 - 4,321 = 35 .
To form a perfect square with one toothpick, you can move one toothpick from the original square to create a smaller square inside it. To form another square in a different way, you can remove three toothpicks from the original square and rearrange them to create a new square adjacent to the original one. This method involves creating a larger square by adding the remaining toothpicks to the newly formed square.
This works for me. I am working with 12ft. width rolls. I divide the square yards by 1.333333. If you have 4ft. width rolls, you divide by 0.444444, 6ft. width you divide by 0.666666. Therefore, in this method you need to know at least one other dimension.
14 feet times 16 feet are 224 square feet. Assuming you are using the American method of determining pitch, ie., 8 inch rise per 1 foot run, you need 346.1326 square feet of roofing. It must be just a coincidence, but I got the same result with the ridgeline on the 16 foot length or the 14 foot width.

Builders Square ended in 1999.
Builders Square was created in 1970.
The advantage of the square method, often used in mathematics and statistics, is that it provides a systematic way to analyze and visualize data or relationships between variables. By representing data points in a squared format, it can simplify complex calculations, enhance clarity, and facilitate easier identification of patterns or trends. Additionally, it often helps in minimizing errors in calculations, especially in optimization problems. This method is particularly useful in regression analysis and when working with geometric representations.
