The best way of looking at this is biggest urban areas, the way cities are defined in the UK being very inconsistant with for instance the city of London only having a population of a few hundred, some suburbs being counted in the total for cities, others not, etc....

The list of biggest urban areas, as defined by government statistics, goes as follows:

Greater London 8,278,251

West Midlands (Birmingham) 2,284,093

Greater Manchester 2,240,230

West Yorkshire (Leeds) 1,499,465

Tyneside (Newcastle) 879,996

Liverpool 816,216

Nottingham 666,358

Sheffield 640,720

Bristol 551,066

Brighton 461,181
