Well it depends on many things sweetheart, one would be how far along you would be and so forth. But it is common in early pregnancy as its the uetrus getting all ready and prepared for a growing baby. So long as it is not accompanied by any bleeding it is quite normal!
Cramping during early pregnancy is usually a sign of ligaments stretching as your uterus grows. This is normal.
If the cramping is severe, and is accompanied by a mass on ONE side of the lower abdomen (early pregnancy only), this is a sign of a serious condition called ectopic pregnancy which requires immediate emergency medical treatment.

Some women do, especially around the time a period would come, 4, 8, 12 weeks. They usually stop after this and some women don't get them at all. It is quite common to experience abdominal cramping in the 1st trimester even spotting. If you have both at the same time, you should consult your physician as you may be at risk for a miscarriage. Pregnant women experience also "Braxton Hicks" which are contractions. There are not rhythmic and may go away when you change positions. Labor contractions are rhythmic and do not go away when you change your position.
