Pain in the "tailbone", otherwise known as coccydynia ["pain in the tailbone"]reflects an inflammation of the coccyx. Can be a fracture if the patient fell on the tailbone. Can be seen in hard deliveries especially when the baby is quite large... Treated by anti-inflammatory meds, ice, heat, and occasionally by steroid injections. If the pain is severe and unrelenting, and no cure can be found, surgical removal of the coccyx is accomplished.
