The first thing I want you to know about Caligula is that his real name is Gaius Ceaser or Germania. Caligula got his nick name from a soldier when he came to work with his dad wearing a soldier outfit (Caligula's father was in the army) getting the name that stuck. Caligula means little soldiers boots so.... Ok so now i will tell you the answer you were looking for. Caligula gained power when Tiberius died on March 16 AD 37 and left everything for Caligula. Oh and in case you didn't know Tiberius was Caligula's cousin

Caligula was the great grandson of Livia who was also emperor Tiberius' mother from another marriage and had been Augustus' wife. Tiberius designated Caligula and his grandson Tiberius Gemellus as his heirs. The two were meant to be joint rulers. However, backed by the head of the praetorian (imperial) guards, Caligula had Tiberius' naming of his grandson in his will annulled and became sole emperor.

What were two bad emperors?

The worst emperor Rome had was Commodus. Caligula was said to have gone mad and have become cruel, but modern historians have cast doubts on this. Many of the bad stories told about Nero were slander by his political opponents. Nero was hated by the aristocracy, but loved by the poor who were very upset when he died.

Who is Claudius the Roman Emperor?

Claudius was the emperor who followed Caligula. After Caligula's murder, the Praetorians were looking for someone to become emperor and they were said to have found Claudius hiding behind a drape. Because he was the only member of the imperial family to be found, he was hailed as emperor. At least that's how the story goes. At any rate, Claudius, who was not trained for public life due to his physical challenges, became emperor and with the help of his advisers turned out to be a fairly good emperor and left the state in good shape and good financial health at his death. He adopted Nero as his heir over his own son and when he showed signs of changing his mind, Nero's mother is said to have poisoned him before he could act.
