The Korean War had a very profound impact on the US. It cost a little over two billion dollars in supplies for the troops and it cost 54,291 in American lives. General Douglas MacArthur was a household name at the peak of the Korean war because of his services in WWII but when he was removed from the US army by Truman for attempting to wage all out war on North Korea and the Soviet Union, many people in the US and even the UK were outraged.

As a result of the Korean War, consumption and investment were held back by Gross Domestic Product through government spending. To finance the war, taxes had to be raised, but the Federal Reserve held off the negative effects of inflation by instituting an anti-inflation policy. Wage and price controls such as the Price Freeze kept prices stagnant.

Militarily, the Korean War introduced JET WARFARE. Jet aircraft evolved to fight in Vietnam, and have evolved to today's hi-tech computer driven aircraft, to include the UAV's (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Socially, South Korea is a highly productive industrialized nation which trades freely with countries world wide.

A) Demonstrated to the US and the world that communism could be stopped, when forced into hostilities.

B) Greatly enhanced US Military technology. Example: The USAF F-86 Sabre, of which about 275 were lost during the Korean War, was improved and it's "son", the North American F-100 Super Sabre jet fought in the Vietnam War (of which 242 were lost). The F-100 was the longest serving US jet aircraft of the Vietnam War, serving from 1961 thru 1971, and was possibly the first US jet to shoot down an enemy NVAF MiG-17 during aerial combat in 1965. A first that is still pending action on behalf of former USAF personnel and historians.
