What were some pros and cons in America during the Korean war?

• pro: it brought people together to ralley against a war they thought was wrong (much like today, only more people rallied back then) • we gained massive amounts of technological and strategic knowledge during that war. It was only beaten by WW2's medical knowledge gained.

• con: bunch of people died, the soldiers that came back were persecuted, there was no way to win

US citizens, especially US veterans were confused as to why the atomic bomb was not being deployed against the communist forces in Korea. The reason the atomic weapons were NOT deployed was because the enemy had them too! This was not the case in WW2; in which the US veterans had fought less than 5 years earlier. In WW2, the A-Bomb was a highly classified (secret) weapon. NO ONE knew about it, except at the highest levels. And the United States was the only country in the world that had the "Bomb!" Not the case in Korea; nor since then.

Today's M-1 MBT's (Main Battle Tanks), Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Infantry weapons, body armor, Apache & Blackhawk Helicopters, F-22 Rapter Jet fighter bombers, the air to air combat schools at Top Gun and Red Flag, are the offspring of the M-48 Patton/M-551 Sheridan Tanks, M-113 ACAV's (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicles), M-16 Rifles/M-60 Machineguns, Steel Helmets and flak vests, Huey & Cobra Helicopters, F-4 Phantom Jet Fighter Bombers, and actual "dog-fighting" (aerial combat) experience with North Vietnamese Air Force MIG-17, MIG-19, and MIG-21's from the Vietnam War. Disadvantages: Over 58,000 dead and over 300,000 wounded US Servicemen.

3. Realizing Vietnam wasn't a peninsula like Korea was, and therefore couldn't be isolated like Korea had successfully been; thus controlling the enemies flow of men/material into the south.
