What did the Tuskegee Airmen accomplish in World War 2?

The Tuskegee Airmen are some of the most famous pilots in the world. They are famous for being the first African-American pilots to ever fight in combat. They flew in P51 Mustangs and flew missions all over Germany during World War Two.
They flew fighter missions to protect US bombers over the south eastern European theatre.

They escorted bombers without losing a single one. They completed 1500 missions, destroyed 111 enemy aircraft in the air, and 150 more on the ground. They helped us by protecting our bombers and fighting many missions for us.

Their claim to fame is that they never lost a bomber under their protection to an enemy aircraft. They liked to paint the tails of their fighter red, and were often referred to as the "Redtails".
