What was one result of prohibition during the 1920s?

"Concern over excessive alcohol consumption" in America began in the Colonial era, and later, the "temperance" movement sought to reduce alcohol intake. Essentially, it had been brewing in the US for 60 years before it came into law.

Following the repeal of prohibition, many crime syndicates branched out into other forms of illegal activities, including gambling and business fraud and corruption. Some labor unions became infiltrated or even controlled by organized crime. This led to the need for more enforcement, police, and federal agencies to combat the rise in crime.
