What did loyalists do?

In the American Revolution there were people who fought on the side of King George iii and those who fought on the side of the Continental Congress. Those who fought on the side of the King used to be called Tories but are now called Loyalists. Those who fought on the side of the Continental Congress used to be called Whigs but are now called Patriots. The change of name may have to do with the current use of Tory for the Conservative Political Party in England. That political party is not at war with The United States. Like all friends, we have differences of opinion, still, we agree on more than we disagree about.
