Before he became king of Crete, Minos struggled with his brothers for power. He prayed to Poseidon to send a Snow White bull as a sign of the god's approval. Poseidon did this, but demanded that the bull be sacrificed after Minos became king. Minos, however, was a greedy man, and the bull so beautiful and perfect that he kept it for himself.

As punishment, Aphrodite made Minos' wife, Pasiphae, fall madly in love with the bull, to the point that she had Daedelus make a hollow cow form for her so that she could be inside and copulate with the bull. The horrific result of his union was the minotaur, which she named Asterion. The minotaur was nursed by pasiphae until he grew too monstrous, at which point he began to feast on human flesh, since nothing else would sate his monstrous appetite.

The Queen of Crete fell in love with a white bull. Strange, but it was Poseidon's doing. Daedalus, the inventor, made a fake cow for her to get into, and the white bull mated with this thing. So Queen Pasiphaë got pregnant and bore the Minotaur.

Minos was the King of Knossos in Crete. As he was vying for the throne against his brothers, he asked Poseidon for a symbol showing his favor. Poseidon sent Minos a stark white bull, which he was then to sacrifice to the God. But Minos refused, keeping the bull for himself as a symbol of his victory.

Poseidon, displeased that Minos was so impious, had Aphrodite intervene on his behalf. The goddess made Minos' wife, Pasiphae, fall in love with the Bull, to the point that she had Daedalus construct a device that would allow her to copulate with the Bull. The result of that union was an unnatural offspring, which they named Asterion, but that the world knew as the Minotaur (Bull of Minos).

Being an unnatural creation, the creature had an unnatrual appetite and craved human flesh. Upon the advice of the Delphic Oracle, Minos had a labyrinth created to imprison the Minotaur, but fearing the further wrath of the Gods, Minos would not kill it. Instead, he forced a subjugated Athens to send 12 virgin youths every 9 years to be fed to the Minotaur.

The Minotaur was used to eat young men and woman by putting them in a labryinth and the Minotaur would eat them once they got lost.

The mother of the Minotaur was Queen Pasiphae of Crete, a goddess: daughter of Helios the Titan god of the sun and Persêis, a Okeanid nymph (a daughter of the Titan Oceanus and his sister-wife Tethys) the Bull of Crete was a handsome bull sent forth from the sea by Poseidon.

In other words, originally this Bull was likely Poseidon in animal form. Minôtauros (Minos's Bull) or "Minotaur" was originally named Asterion "Starry One". Likely in association to Taurus.

The sea god Poseidon decided that he wanted a grand sacrifice from Crete, one of the seaside kingdoms that worshipped him so out of the foam of the waves he created a magnificent blue (or white) bull and sent it to the beach by this kingdom. Some men on the beach saw the bull and decided to take it to their king, Minos, so that he could decide what to do with it. When the king saw the bull he realised that Poseidon must want it as a sacrifice and told the priests to prepare the bull for a grand sacrifice. But when the king next looked at the bull he was struck by the magnificence of the beast, and told the priests to delay the sacrifice for a day. The next day he again saw the bull and thought to himself, 'this bull is too grand to be killed in such a way' so he told the priests to release the bull and instead ordered them to fetch the largest bull in the kingdom to be sacrificed in it's place, hoping that Poseidon would not notice. The priests were not happy but they did as they were told, and the bull from Poseidon went free. But of course Poseidon was not fooled by the bull sacrificed in the place of his one. When he saw that his bull had not been sacrificed he was furious, and he decided to punish the king, as it was he who had ordered the release of the bull. Poseidon made the king's wife, Pasiphaë, fall in love with the bull, so one night she went out to it and had sex with the bull in the dead of night. From this unnatural union the queen conceived a child, but when it was born it had the torso of a man and the lower body of a bull. This was Poseidon's revenge. King Minos ordered a wise man from his kingdom, Daedalus, to construct a maze which nothing could escape from under his palace and the beast was thrown in until it was later slain by Theseus of Athens. The people of Crete only heard the stories of the creature, and they called it the Minotaur after King Minos, for it was he that had brought this curse down on them in the first place.
