The ones in British Columbia, Canada look like a large flea. They can be dark to light gray in color. They will attach themselves to animals or people and once drawing blood will bloat, and that's when they double or triple in size. It's important that anyone hiking, biking in mountainous areas brush their hair (even have their friend check through their hair) wear a hat/cap; long sleeves, pants and check over your body once you have returned from your outing. I always check our dogs too. If your dog or yourself comes into contact with a tick and it is not removed then Lime Disease can often occur. Ticks on dogs are usually around the muzzle area, but also can be attached around the ear area.
There are several types of tics, seed tics, blood tics that like to attach to dogs or even people. A seed tic looks like a very small dark colored seed and a blood tic, brown in color burries it's head and sucks the blood, getting fatter and fatter. They generaly like dark, moist areas of the body, behind the ear, in the ear, arm pit or groin area fo example.

ticks are small parasitic insects that feed on the blood of animals and humans. Ticks produce a toxin which can harm your dog if you do not remove the tick in the correct manner and a dog with ticks may develop anaemia or become poisoned by the ticks over an extended period of time if nothing is done about the tick infestation.

What do a dogs skin feel like when they have a tick?

Well, when my friends dog had ticks, his skin felt normal, it was just that the dog wouldn't stop itching his fur because of the rash.. hope this helps *** A tick will embed its head into the skin of the host (dog or cat), the body of the tick remains on the outside so it is visible to the naked eye. The skin remains to feel normal.

When you get bite from the tick?

yes you can get bitten. *brief summary of a personal occasion*... ticks may borough deep into the skin, so much so that it can look like a skin mark or a simple mole. my brother found one on his upper back today, and a PRETTY DECENT size, too. it embedded itself so far into the skin that only the upper back of the tick was showing as a zit sized skin mark( even so the tick was maybe 4-6mm THATS BIG! ), no legs visible. we got tweezers, band-aids, cotton, alcohol, a magnifier and a locking empty pill container. *note: TICKS CAN LIVE IN RUBBING ALCOHOL! , also the American dog tick and deer tick get confused even by pros, so don't freak if it looks like a deer tick. PS, it was only the DOG tick NOT THE DEER TICK:)

How do you know if the head of a tick is still under your skin?

It is important to look at the tick when you remove it to see that you got the head as well as the body. If not, the head needs to be removed from under the skin. It will likely puff up and turn red to signify a foreign body is under the skin.
