The maximum speed limit on most California highways is 65 mph. You may drive 70 mph where posted. Unless otherwise posted, the maximum speed limit is 55 mph on two-lane undivided highways and for vehicles towing trailers.

However, the "basic speed law" of California says that one cannot drive faster than it is safe to do so under the prevailing conditions--irregardless of the posted speed limit. One could be cited for breaking the basic speed law while going 25 in a 35-mph-posted area if, for example, there was flooding on the street or a recent crash had left oil on the street. If you are traveling faster than a speed that is safe, you can be cited for violating California's basic speed law.

im not 100% sure but in GA as well as alot of other states the speed limit on a rural interstate HWY is 70 mph
