If you give them permission to do so they can, or if they have reasonable suspicion to suspect something is going on. If you are being charged with something else (search incident to arrest), they can also search your automobile. Bottom line is that driving is a privilege and with privileges comes a certain level of responsibility. However, your responsibility as a citizen trumps your responsibility as a motorist when in the situation of being pulled over. You have the right to remain silent, refuse consent to search, and the right to an officers name and badge number.

anytime they want but you have a right to not let them until they have a warent to search your car and they might take the car but that's all they can do so make sure you don't have anything and if u do and u say you don't want them seaching and they find it you can not get in trouble for it because you did not give them pormission and they seached it ileagaly.

no you cant only if you have a warrant

Another View: ACTUALLY - since no circumstance or example is given, the question is not specific enough to answer.

For instance: Even though they are not law enforcement officers in the 'legal' definition of the title, airline passengers baggage and belongings CAN legally be searched by agents of the Transportation Security Administration.

Unless the question can be narrowed down by giving an example, it is generally true that law enforcement officers may not search passengers belongings without sufficient probable cause which might give them that authority as an "exigent" circumstance.
