How much Xanax can you give your dog?

Not sure what the exact dosing is, but for my 60 pound dog I give two of those little pink tabs (50mg). For smaller dogs it might be less. Be careful, though, it can cause your dog to become more hyper sometimes.

Animal owners should contact their vets. Valium is metabolized differently in canines than it is in humans. All doses should be given as per a vet's instructions.

Valium (diazepam) brand & generic tablets come in 2-milligrams, 5-milligrams, and 10-milligrams. A milligram(mg) is a 1,000th of a gram or 10^-3 or 0.001-grams. Ativan (lorazepam) brand & generic tablets come in 0.5-mg, 1-mg, and 2-mg tablets. Although both diazepam & lorazepam are in the same class of drugs: benzodiazepines (BZs), lorazepam has an atypical profile unlike any of the other BZs. Therefore, their dosages are NOT interchangeable or correlated in any sort of sense. And that relatively goes for any drug, vitamin, or mineral.

If you were to go into the drugstore looking for 200-mg tablets of Motrin (ibuprofen), but all they had was aspirin (ASA) tablets, which is another example of two drugs in the same class: NSAIDs, you would find that there wouldn't be any 200-mg tablets of ASA on the shelves. This is because they haven't made ASA in 200-mg tablets, EVER, because the drug has been found by the FDA to only be effective/appropriate at dosages broken down into either 81-mg, 325-mg, or 500-mg tablets (there are, I think, three more strengths of ASA produced but the three I mentioned are the most common).

Diazepam being dispensed in divided doses and equalling to 20-mg in 24-hours is a high dose to start the medication on, but it is a common dosage for those who take the medication somewhat regularly. I personally have been prescribed all three of the BZs discussed previously with different success with each, and a cat that I once owned was prescribed 1-mg (or 1/2 of a 2-mg tablet) every 12 hours which helped tremendously with her anxiety and with her spraying my bed.

As it was stated before - you should always consult with a vet, and do some of you own research before drugging your animal.
