Chimpanzees are omnivores, meaning they eat both plant and animal material. Their diet primarily consists of plants, nuts, fruit, and insects like ants and termites. Meat is a very small part of their diet. It is composed of small monkeys and forest deer. This prey is caught via coordinated efforts. For instance, chimps will scare or herd monkeys into the hands of chimps waiting in trees in the surounding area. There is one community in Senegal that actually uses spears. They sharpen the ends of sticks with their teeth and then ram them inside of tree hollows in an attempt to spear a small primate known as a "Bush Baby."
