How do you know when your mouse is in labor?

If your mouse is pregnant then the male mice should not be attempting to mate with it. Other than that, keep an eye on her. She could start making a nest out of shredded paper etc (and it is a nice idea to give her some paper or soft material to make her bed out of). After a while she will start getting plump in the middle. TRULY the middle, not just the tummy. She will look like she swallowed a marshmallow eventually. P.S. Mice pregnancy goes really fast. Just a few weeks. Good luck! If she is not pregnant the male will keep trying to mate with her every 24 hours until she is. Mice have short estrus periods and are VERY prolific.

NEW ANSWER: She will spend lots of time feeding, you will see her getting slightly bigger, sometimes it is not noticeable (depending on her general size/shape). You will also notice her running around less, making less sudden movements, treading more carefully.No need to separate any other females as they will help raise the young of others.

put normal amounts of food in but keep an eye on the food level more often and top up when required (you can even give them little fatty treats to help them out).

If its clean and she has not given birth try not to disturb the nest/bedding but provide a little extra clean bedding near the nest area, she/other mice will use it to build with (from my experience, you don't need to cover the cage with a cloth, but do make sure it looks secure and the nest area is also secure and snug).

Take care not to disturb the mice too much, although they will still appreciate you're company if they know you (i sit next to my pregnant mice and talk to them while they go about their normal behaviour). You should visit many websites to get information, do not rely on this one.

If a mouse is threatened while she has young babies she may try to abandon them or even move them, the only time a mouse will kill/eat it's babies is if the babies are ill or unable to feed properly from the mother (maybe a deformed mouse).

Follow these:

1. Sperate the femalein the other cage

2. Put lots of food in the cage about 3 weeks to a month

3. Cover the female's cage with Dark(black) cloth

When you walk by the cage, be very quiet and don't hve loud noise around the house or else the mother will eat their babies.

if your mouse is in labour, she probably would obiously have a big tummy - she wouldent be able to get comfy - probably keeps making nests wen she is close to labour but other than that, you would not really know for sure wen she is in labour. hope this helps x x

Usually you'll see baggy sacks around the hips however the mouse may not appear fat for about fifteen days or so of the gestation period. On some mice it's very obvious, on others it's not. Your mouse will probably start collecting items to create it's nest 2 so add some newspaper and ripped tissue. The mouse might be a bit lethargic as well and perhaps, not always, the mouse will become grumpy and try to bite you when you attempt to handle it. Some people say that if the mouse does not give birth within 3 weeks then it is not pregnant however my mouse wasn't pregnant till week 6!!!
