You can, but there's many many steps you'd need to take to do so. You would have to hide ALL electrical wires and such, block access to getting behind or under dangerous things- like refrigerators, dryer, etc. You would have to be sure that any other pets you have would not harm it, OR play too rough with it. You would have to clean up after it. It's not recommended. You'd have to make sure it didn't pee or poop in its water dish- this is why bottles are better. You could accidentally crush it if it slept with you and you moved.. It's not a good idea.
