The maximum allowable stress is that value beyond which, after applying an appropriate factor of safety its particular strength criterion is exceeded and failure occurs.

For example, if aluminum strength in yield is 35,000 psi, and factor of safety is 1.25, its maximum allowable stress against yield is 35,000/1.25 = 28,000 psi

permissible stress is considering for design of structural items. if the stresses developed in a structure due to service loads do not exceed the elastic limit. This limit is usually determined by ensuring that stresses remain within the limits through the use of factors of safety.

so i think u got what will be max permissible stress.ref:wikipedia.permissible stress is considering for design of structural items. if the stresses developed in a structure due to service loads do not exceed the elastic limit. This limit is usually determined by ensuring that stresses remain within the limits through the use of factors of safety. so i think u got what will be max permissible stress.ref:wikipedia.permissible stress is considering for design of structural items. if the stresses developed in a structure due to service loads do not exceed the elastic limit. This limit is usually determined by ensuring that stresses remain within the limits through the use of factors of safety. so i think u got what will be max permissible stress.ref:wikipedia.

What is the Difference between permissible and allowable stress?

Permissible stress design (in USA construction more commonly called allowable stress design) is a design philosophy used by civil engineers. The designer ensures that the stresses developed in a structure due to service loads do not exceed the elastic limit.
