It is most definitely illegal to copy a rented movie, or any other movie you do not own. It is also currently illegal to copy a movie you own, if that movie has copy-prevention technology; not because it's illegal to copy it, but because it's illegal to bypass the copy-prevention.

I would recommend VLC media player because it can play unprotected files. Also if you go into view and click 'advanced controls' you will see a red dot icon, this is the record button. It simply allows you to watch a film and while you are watching it will record the film onto your pc/laptop. For some reason when I do this it puts the file into my documents folder but all you have to do is rename it and put it wherever you want to.

∙ 13y agoYes, it violates the copyright laws that usually appear at the beginning of the movie. Even if the movie does not show that screen, it is still illegal to copy the movie without proper consent from the company since the movie more than likely is copyrighted if you rented it.

∙ 10y agoIn order to copy rented DVD movies, you should have the following things: a computer with a DVD burner, a DVD copy software and a DVD protection remover. You would copy rented DVD movies by first executing the protection onto the DVD, then by using the DVD burner with the DVD copy software to rip the DVD onto your PC.
