Why did L die in Death Note?

Rem kills L because she loves Misa so much that she feels like a mother to her. Light blackmailed Rem to write L's real name in the note book, the only way to kill L *most important thing to Light* and save Misa(most important thing to Rem). Light's plan works and for him it's like hitting two birds with one stone. Both L and Rem, not to mention Watari died who were the biggest obstacles to him.

I would like to point out that i have watched death note and death note 2 and Rem doesnt kill him (OMFG Rem is a girl ?!) Rem was not blackmailed by Light as Rem can just right down Lights name and kill him like Ryuk does at the end because Light goes syco :/. He writes his own name down for 4weeks later so that he cannot be killed until then.

But it changes. In the anime and manga, he is killed by Rem, but in the movie, he switches the death notes and fakes his death. After Kira dies, L writes his own name in the death note, giving him 23 days to live until he dies peacefully.
