The Bible makes reference to them as "Father and Son."

God made mankind "male and female"... in a "family" relationship... one family made up of many people. As mentioned above, their "purpose" is the same -- like "family sticks together" for the benefit of the family in all matters.

God calls those to whom He has given His Holy Spirit, HIS CHILDREN. That's "family."

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD [that's family]... Heirs of God [that's family], and Joint-Heirs WITH Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that WE MAY BE ALSO GLORIFIED TOGETHER." (Rom.8:16-17 KJV)

And the Bible concludes with the same "familial" theme regarding mankind's potential to enter into [be adopted] into GOD'S FAMILY!

The "similarity" between Jesus and God is the similarity that is present between Loving, Respectful, Trusting FAMILY MEMBERS! The Father is the Head of His Household... and His "Firstborn Son"... and ALL THE REST OF HIS CHILDREN are working toward the Day when they will be revealed to the world -- and the Day when all will be rewarded with their inheritance of the Universe [all things].

It's the same "similarity" among the Father, His Firstborn Son Jesus, and all the rest of His Children:

"...we should behave like God's VERY OWN CHILDREN, adopted into the bosom of His Family, and calling to Him, 'Father, Father.'" (Rom.8:15 LVB)

God made mankind "male and female." He made them a "family" to demonstrate to man what HE IS ALL ABOUT. God is making, creating, procreating THE GOD FAMILY! That's what the Divinely-Revealed Word of God, the Bible, is about.

It's about "family." And that's the "similarity" between the Father in heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ, who sits presently at His Father's right hand interceding on behalf of the rest of God's Faithful Children, who Trust Him to redeem them from the god of this world -- and from his family... the "children of disobedience" [Eph.2:2 & 5:6-7].

Isaac, like Christ, was a promised son, and both births were miraculous -- Isaac's because his mother, Sarai, was past childbearing age, and Christ because his mother, Mary, was a virgin. Both were named before their birth by God, which is unusual in the scripture. Despite the fact that their births were promised, and both were expected to accomplish great things -- Isaac was supposed to be the first in Abraham's lineage, which was eventually to become a "great nation," and Christ was to be the Messiah who was promised to the Jews -- both were condemned to die, apparently before they had achieved their purpose. God ordered Abraham to sacrifice Isaac and offer him as a burnt offering. Christ, of course, was murdered. God spared Isaac in the end, providing a lamb as a substitute sacrifice; Christ's purpose, of course, was to be the Lamb of God. In these and in other ways, Isaac foreshadows the coming of Christ.

They both encourage men and women in the olden times to "Change of Heart" or what we call "Metanoia", however we all know that John the Baptist is Jesus' Precursor. Jacob is significant in the Old Testament for several reasons.

a) Jacob later changes his name to Israel (Genesis 32:28), and is the father of the twelve tribes of Israel, God's chosen people.

b) Jacob, though in a deceiving and mischievous way, embraces the promises of God to Abraham and the blessings of God.

c) Jacob has a dream in Genesis 28 of a stairway to heaven, and is promised that all nations will be blessed through Jacob and his offspring (a reinforcement of the the promise to Abraham Gen 12:3).

d) Jacob wrestles with God (Gen 32) and saw God face to face.

Jesus is similar to Jacob because he FULFILS all that Jacob begun. Jesus is the true Israel, the true king of Israel, he is God and he is the ruler of God's chosen people.

Jesus is the fulfilment of the promises of God, and specifically the third promise to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through Abraham, and in turn Jacob and his descendants. Everyone (all nations) are able to experience the blessings of God (not just Jews) through Jesus.

Jacob and his vision of a stairway to heaven is similar to what Jesus promises to Nathanael in John 1:51 of the angels of heaven ascending and descending. But there is a key difference, no longer is it a stairway but the SON OF MAN. Jesus is the stairway to heaven and the connecting and bridge between heaven and earth.

Finally Jacob wrestles with God and sees his face. Jesus reconciles us to God and is the face of God. Those who want to see God and know him need only look at Jesus.
