The book was different from the movie because the movie had deleted scenarios from the book. However, in the full version, they did a pretty good job of being faithful to the book. Another difference was the character's apperance. In the book it said that Dallas Winston had blonde hair. in the movie, Dally appeared to have dark brown hair. In the book, it also didn't describe that Johnny was of a different race (darker in skin tone). One last difference was that the movie has much less detail then the book. In the book it described how Ponyboy felt about everything. In the movie everything just went fast and it didnt really talk about the way Ponyboy felt.

Book outsiders similar to the movie outsiders?

The book and the movie are similar but they cut many parts of the movie to make it shorter but they still have the same characters even though their appearances change a little. The plot is still the same and many of the events that were in the book were also in the movie. My advice to you would be to read the novel for it is a very interesting novel that most people enjoy, the movie is great too but there are alot of details missing
