Technically, it was Emil Sitka who was scheduled to take over for Larry when he passed in January, 1975. But Moe fell ill to lung cancer and passed in April, 1975 and Sitka never got to play with the Stooges. He was a role player in many Stooges two-reel shorts of the 1940s and 1950s. He passed away in 1998.
Moe Howard - 1897-1975
Larry Fine - 1902-1975
Curly Howard - 1903-1952
Shemp Howard - 1895-1955
Joe Besser - 1907-1988
Curly Joe DeRita - 1909-1993
Joe Palma - 1905-1994*
Emil Sitka - 1914-1998
* - Shemp passed away with four two-reel shorts left in the contract. Joe Palma stepped in and 'played' Shemp for those four shorts. Palma had no lines, kept his face away from the camera, and wore a wig that looked like Shemp's hair. Palma, like Emil Sitka, played in many Stooges shorts in the 40s and 50s. At the end of the contract Joe Besser was signed to become the third Stooge.

No. The Howard part was actually just a stage name. Moe, Curly, and Shemp's real last name was Horwitz (yes, they were Jewish)
Yes, they were immensely popular. They were popular enough to have made feature films in the 30's instead of shorts, but the boss at Columbia would not let them because he did not want to pay them as movie stars. Television in the 50's revived the Three Stooges, and at last they were able to make movies.
Curly's last name is Howard. He was a member of the comedy act "The Three Stooges" in the early to mid-20th century.

As of my last update, the airing schedule for "The Three Stooges" on AMC can vary, so it's best to check the AMC website or your local TV listings for the most accurate and current information. The show typically features classic episodes of the comedy trio, but specific times may change based on programming schedules.
No, Traylor Howard is not related to Moe Howard. Traylor Howard is an actress known for her roles in television shows like "Monk" and "Two Guys and a Girl," while Moe Howard was a member of the comedy team The Three Stooges. They share the same last name, but there is no known familial connection between them.
