Why is blink 182 named blink 182?

Great band. They got there name from the movie scarface. In the movie they say they drop the F bomb 182 times. In the movie industry when they edit out the swear its called "blinking" Hense, blink -182

Blink 182 became famous from playing small gigs and then getting sponsored and then made some awesome tunes. after releasing there first album they were heard all over and the enema of the state album put them at the top.

Blink-182 was originally named duck tape, but then tom said that blink sounded cool. they took that name but then had to add -182 because there was an irish/techno band named blink and they were threatening to sue. they just pulled the 182 out of their a$$, and then came up with cool reasons for it. 4 realz, u can read it in The Urethra Chronicals.

i should know this, but i think they started w/ ' blink ' but then there was some band in scotlad or Poland or w/e that had the name so they added 182. tom said "the # has no meaning but i have fun seeing what people come up with (or think it means)"

Although tom and mark will make up crazy sayings as to how blink got their name... it was really just a random number. you can find it out in their semi-autobiography "Tales From Beneath Your Mom"

Originally they were called Duck Tape until Tom came up with the name Blink. After they produced their Cheshire Cat album, an Irish group named Blink also filed a lawsuit against them. To avoid any legal trouble, they added 182 to the end.

Tom just thought of the "blink" part off the top of his head, but after they were threatened with a lawsuit by an Irish pop band called Blink, they added 182 onto the end of their name.

They got their 182 from the movie Scarface, because that is how many times the main character (Tony Montana) says "f**k" in it. Another speculation is when Tom was a teenager, he loved art and drawing, and there was a type of art material known as "Zinc 182" which they also may have gotten the number from.

A final theory is that the members say that the number means nothing and that they just came up with 182 off the top of their heads because they thought Blink 182 had a nice ring to it. EDIT: mark also said that he was fat and wanted to lose weight so he had 182 as his goal weight around his house so when it was time to change the name they used that. but more than likely is it means nothing ask tom at the next concert when he signs your autograph book.

Some people also think 182 comes from the 182nd day of the year being the middle point of the year, as in you blink and half the year is gone.
