in Chicago it mean the same thing but it's also used to describe someone younger than you. a lot of these hip hop terms originate in Chicago but is never given due credit. Like (fam)family, shawty, "on the real", "whats crackin", etc....

Shawty is a term of endearment. It could be your child or it could be your main girl, woman or wife. For a female a shawty would be a child. For a male it could be a child and a significant other. Someone you care for. Weird, huh?
