The Beatles were long since broken up by 1991, and were not recording as a group. Elton John covered a Beatles song in 1974, "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", with John Lennon's blessing and participation, and they duetted on Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" and "Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)" later that year. Lennon guested with John at Madison Square Garden that Thanksgiving... it was Lennon's last concert appearance.
