To begin with, the sperm cell is streamlined offering hydrodynamic properties for swimming towards the ovum for fertilisation to take place. The cell's body segment consists of many mitochondria which perform reactions of aerobic respiration to generate energy required for the contraction (and therefore, the movement) of the "tail" of the sperm cell which is required for swimming. The head region of the cell consists of an acrosome region (at the tip) which is a mixture of enzymes responsible for breaking down some of the ovum's defenses (membranes and particles surrounding the genetic material of the egg cell) providing a safe passage for the sperm cell's nucleus to pass through and perform fertilisation - this is the "acrosome reaction". The sperm cell has almost no cytoplasm whatsoever. This is a good thing, since it ensures that it is as light as possible so that all the energy produced by the mitochondria in the body can be used for the movement of the cell and is not wasted in attempting to shift the extra weight of the cytoplasm (assuming it was present).

It has a tail and is long and slim for faster and easier transport.

Many people do not know that sperm cells have a sense of smell. When the sperm passes through the cervix, it smells the female ova from the egg. the sperm cells then practically race to the egg. the sperm cell then burrows into the egg and fertilization is complete.

in about 3 main ways, the sperm cell is adapted for fertilisation.

Firstly,

the sperm cells tail increases its ability to swim towards the ovum (the egg)

Secondly,

There are millions of sperm in a single ejaculation (Spunk/Jizz, Informal), which increases the chance of a successful pregnancy.

And Finally,

Only a few reach the egg, which suggests they travel in groups, which once again can increase the chance of a successful pregnancy.

It has a tail and it swims toward the egg although its swimming ability might not have much to do with its travels to contact with an egg. A better single adaption for fertilization might be that there are usually so many of them in a single ejaculation. The route to the egg is only a few inches generally but it is a mine field of disasters waiting to happen if you are so small that you've only recently been seen. Given that only a few get near the egg most die along the way it seems that because they run in groups that they are adapted for fertilization. For example, it seems that if there were only one sperm or spermatazoa in each ejeculation and internal deposit, either there would have to be a lot more sex and a lot more often among birds and mammals or there would be a much smaller population.

If we knew what you put before we could answer this accurately. Sperm has an enzyme that allows it to penetrate the egg. Once the egg has been penetrated it closes off to all other sperm. The sperm consists of a body, a tail, and acrosome surrounding the anterior of its head.

Sperm is adapted for fertilization specifically of eggs with a special organelle called an acrosome. This organelle allows the sperm, and only the sperm, to pierce and enter the egg.

In what way is the sperm adapted to allow it to get to the egg?

By using it's tail.

Is there another way to get pregnant?

Other than traditional intercourse, you can get pregnant by invitro fertilization, where a doctor would mix sperm and eggs and place them inside the uterus or by inserting sperm into the woman's vagina via another method.

What contains chemicals to break through things a egg cell or a sperm cell?

A sperm cell contains chemicals to break through things. This is because on the sperm's way to the egg (fertilization) it has to get past many other things and needs a specially strengthened head to break through things.

In what way is an ovum adapted to carry out its special role?

The ovum is bound by many membranes preventing the breakage of it. The ovum contains food which is essential for the developing zygote. It forms a fertilization membrane after fertilization to prevent the entry of the other sperms.

What are the similarities of internal external fertilization?

Internal fertilization takes place inside the body of the female. It is necessary for animals which live on land (terrestrial animals) and is retained by aquatic animals descended form terrestrial ancestors eg whales and dolphins. External fertilization takes place outside the body of the female. It usually takes place in water, usually the environment in which the animal lives eg fish and amphibians. This is because eggs and sperm would dry out and die if they are not kept wet. Internal fertilization is more certain than external fertilization so fewer eggs need to be produced. After internal fertilization eggs can be protected and fed while developing inside the mother's body. After external fertilization the eggs are potentially exposed to predators and so must either be produced in very large numbers or protected by the parents or both.

What is fertilization inside the female body called?

This is called internal fertilization. It happens in birds and mammals, whereas amphibians emit eggs and sperm to meet in the outside world.

What happens when you hold in your sperm?

The sperm cells have to travel a long way - for them, it is a long way in any case. Most die on the way. Despite the large number of sperm cells released in a typical ejaculation (several hundred million), only a few get close to the destination.

Why so many sperms are needed for fertilization to occur?

Actually, it only takes one sperm to fertilize the egg, but the problem is the journey to the egg. The male ejaculates so many sperm because most of them die on the way there, the lucky one that gets there cause the fertilization.

When does a woman conceive?

Conception happens when a fertilized egg embeds itself onto the maternal endometrium, in the womb. This is distinct from fertilization, which happens when a sperm cell makes its way into the egg. There is some period of time between fertilization and conception.

Can a women get pregnant if they drink sperm?

No, it does not happen that way. In order to get pregnant, the man's sperm needs to travel inside the woman's vagina and up through her cervical canal. Meanwhile, her egg comes from her ovaries and descends down her fallopian tubes. If the sperm is able to unite with the egg, fertilization will occur and pregnancy will result. Drinking sperm does not put it anywhere near the woman's cervical canal nor anywhere near her ovaries, so fertilization cannot occur.

When can you say that fertilization in sexual reproduction took place?

Fertilization is when a sperm cell and egg cell fused together to develop an embryo. So it happens within the 24 hours after the egg is released. That can be around the second week of the cycle.
