Best Answer

1. Growth - by increasing the number of cells in tissues

2. Embryonic development - by producing more specialized cells to form many tissues, organs etc

3. Tissue repair - by replacing dead / injured cell

4. Asexual reproduction - direct replication of DNA, creating two identical daughter cells (usually for unicellular organisms such as bacteria to maintain a population)

Mitosis is the process of reproduction used by simple organisms. Through this process, the cell completes 4 stages: # Prophase # Metaphase # Anaphase # Telophase. In prophase, the cell's DNA-protein fibers condense to become chromosomes and the nuclear membrane and nucleolus disassemble. Next comes metaphase, in which the chromosomes line up in the cell. Then anaphase, where the chromosomes separate and move apart. And finally telophase, where the chromosomes uncoil and the nuclear membrane and nucleolus reforms. At this point, ther are two new cells. Mitosis is different from meiosis in that it is nonsexual reproduction, and is only used by very simple organisms.

Cell division is used for repair and replenishment of cells as well as growth (mitosis). Meiosis, another form of cell division, is used for production of haploid gametes (sex cells such as sperm and eggs).

Mitosis is a form of division in which a single cell splits into two identical daughter cells. This is used as a form of replication - and is mostly used to replace dying cells. It is also involved in asexual reproduction - which some organisms undergo.

Mitosis is used by the somatic cells to divide the nucleus with equal number of chromosomes. It is used after interphase (more specifically G2 phase).

Why should the term cell division and mitosis should not be used interchangeably?

Mitosis is the process of cell division and is completed by the cell completely dividing.

Explain why the terms cell division and mitosis should not be used interchangeably?

Mitosis takes place in the nucleus of a dividing cell. Cell division refers to both nuclear and cytoplasmic division as a whole.

Arithmetic operator that divides contents of cell?

The / is used for division in spreadsheet formulas.

What kind of cell division when the cell is not dividing?

:Mitosis is the cell division which did not divided the cell.: Reduction Division is the cell division which divided the cell into half.

What are centrioles used for?

Help organize cell division

Difference between nuclear division and cell division?

Cell division is when a cell splits in two to make more cells, and the cycle is where the cell does all the other stuff. A full life span of a cell is cell cycle that include cell division+ cell death and cell division cycle is the process of a cell to divide into two.

What do animals use a centriole for?

The centrioles are used during cell division. Centrioles migrate to opposite poles of the cell during cell division and are used to organise the spindles. They are also capable of independent replication and of migrating to form basal bodies.

Does mitosis occur in animals?

yes. mitosis is used in cell division

What other term is commonly used in place of mitosis?

Cell Division

Why mitotic cell division is called homotypic cell division?

Mitotic cell division is called homotypic cell division because no crossing over is occur in this division and pairing of homologous cromosome is also not occur. So caracteristics of daughter cells is same as mother cell. As there is no variation occur, so this type of cell division may called homotypic cell division.

Why is meiosis called reductional cell division?

Meiosis cell division is called reduction division because in this cell division the cells got from the parents cell is divided into half. So the daughter cells is haploid(n). Thus, meiosis cell division is called reduction division.
