A diaphragm is a domed muscular wall the reperates to regions. When is contracts it flattens to increase pressure on the inside of the dome and decrease pressure on the outside of the dome. In the case of the pelvic diaphragm is domes downards and contracts to resisf the increased pressure from the thoracic diaphragm on the abdomen during inhalation.
