the relationship between the melting points and boiling points is simply that the higher the melting point, the higher the boiling point. the metal has to melt before it can boil, so if it didn't melt, it won't boil. there fore, the higher the melting point, the higher the boiling point ill be.

Yes, as the larger the atomic weight the larger the boiling/melting points the halogens have. This is due to the larger atoms having larger van der walls forces due to the larger number of electrons.

There are weak Van Der Waal forces between the molecules. These weak inter molecular forces increase in strength with molecular size which increases down the group. Boling Point depends on the stength of the intermolucular forces.


Alkali metals


The Melting Point depends on the srength of the metallic bond. the metallic bond dereases with increasing atomic size (because packing of charges will be looser so forces are smaller) So atomic size increases down the group, so MP decreases.
