∙ 10y agoGalileo was forbidden by the pope to treat the Copernican heliocentric system as anything other than hypothetical, because he did not want anything else to challenge the geocentric Aristotelian system that the church had been using for centuries. Because of this, Galileo was unable to truly outline his findings candidly. Also, nobody believes his theory about the tides being proof that the Earth is in motion.
