in 1898, in London William Ramsay along with Morris Travers discovered neon, krypton, and xenon. he was awarded noble prize for chemistry in 1904, the year in which , rayleigh receive the physics prize.
Neon (Greek νέον (neon) meaning "new one") was discovered in 1898 by the British chemists Sir William Ramsay (1852-1916) and Morris W. Travers (1872-1961) in London.
Neon was discovered when Ramsay chilled a sample of air until it became a liquid, then warmed the liquid and captured the gases as they boiled off. The gases nitrogen, oxygen, and argon had been identified, but the remaining gasses were isolated in roughly their order of abundance, in a six-week period beginning at the end of May 1898. First to be identified was krypton. The next, after krypton had been removed, was a gas which gave a brilliant red light under spectroscopic discharge. This gas, identified in June, was named neon, the Greek analogue of "novum," (new).
William Ramsey (a Scottish scientist) and Morris Travers (an English scientist) discovered neon at United Kingdom in 1898.

In mid-1894, Sir William Ramsay worked in conjunction with John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh, on research which led to the discovery of Argon. They announced the discovery at the meeting of the British Association in August 1894, and in 1904 were awarded Nobel Prizes for the discovery. According to his Nobel Committee biography, Ramsay went on to discover Helium in 1895; and in 1898 he found Neon, Krypton and Xenon.
Neon is the second-lightest noble gas and its color is reddish-orange. It was discovered by William Ramsay and Morris Travers in 1898.
Neon is found in the atmosphere. Neon is c.0.002% of the atmosphere. Also stars produce neon during the later stages of nuclear fusion.
