There are two terms that can mean farsightedness (blurry near vision and clear far vision). Hyperopia is farsightedness that can occur at any age. Young children often grow out of hyperopia. Presbyopia is farsightedness that occurs with aging, usually over age 40. Presbyopia also affects a larger number of people than does hyperopia.
hyperopia
Nearsightedness, or myopia, is an eye problem that causes objects at a distance to be blurry. A nearsighted person can clearly see objects that are close to them, but has a hard time focusing on objects that are far away. The condition arises when light from distant objects fall in front of the retina or the eyes, instead of on it. This leads to the vision of distant objects being blurred. There is no problem, however, in seeing near objects.
A nearsighted person is referred to as "myopic."
myopia
Myopia: Nearsighted: Able to see objects up close, but objects at a distance are out of focus.
Presbyopia: Difficulty focusing on objects that are up close. This is naturally occurs with aging. It is the condition when someone has to use reading glasses to be able to read or focus on objects within arm's length.
Hyperopia: Farsighted: Able to focus on objects that are far away, but objects up close are out of focus.
Farsightedness is difficulty seeing objects that are nearby.

Causes, incidence, and risk factorsFarsightedness is the result of the visual image being focused behind the retinarather than directly on it. It may be caused by the eyeball being too small or the focusing power being too weak.
Farsightedness is often present from birth, but children have a very flexible eye lens, which helps make up for the problem. Most children outgrow the condition. As aging occurs, glasses or contact lenses may be required to correct the vision. If you have family members who are farsighted, you are also more likely to become farsighted.
SymptomsA general eye examination to diagnosis farsightedness may include the following tests:
Farsightedness is easily corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Surgical techniques are available for correcting farsightedness and can be used for those who do not wish to wear glasses or contacts.
Expectations (prognosis)The outcome is expected to be good.
ComplicationsFarsightedness can be a risk factor for glaucoma and lazy eye.
Calling your health care providerCall for an appointment with your health care provider or ophthalmologist if symptoms of farsightedness develop and you have not had an eye examination recently.
Also, call if vision begins to get worse after you have been diagnosed with farsightedness.
Farsightedness is greater difficulty seeing near objects than distant objects.
