Candace Bushnell wrote three books that chronicle the life and times of the girls that later became the cultural phenomenon known as Sex and the City.

Her first book is called Sex and the City. This is the book that the television series was taken from. After the success of a television show and movies, Candace Bushnell released The Carrie Diaries and Summer and the City. These books are prequels to Sex and the City and follow the protagonist Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of High School in the 1980's, her move to New York City, how she became a writer, and how she goes on to meet her fellow "Sex and the City" comrades, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte.
