The central idea revolves around the two main

characters - the frog and the nightingale ,both

having contrasting characters

The frog is greedy, jealous and Unscrupluous. He

takes advantage of the nightingale's talent for his

own benefit and later gets rid of her so that he

may remain the undefeated champion.

But neither can we say that the nightingale is not

responsible for her own death. She is rather naive

and has got no idea of what is good or bad. She

also lives with the constant fear of loosing all that

fame and applause and allowed herself to be lead

by the manipulative frog which, perhaps is the

main reason of her death.

I guess the poet tries to convey a much deeper

meaning through the poem. Perhaps he wants to

throw light on the kind of competitive world we

live in, where everyone wants to stay ahead of

the race, where corrupt and inconsiderate people

would be ready to trample those who are naive

and innocent and move on.

Hope the answer helps...:)
