Frank Baum as some have incorrectly recorded. the Witch character is expanded into a feature character rather than an expendable villainess. methinks this occult garbage is dross. Gregory Maguire wrote 'Wicked - The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West'. This book is loosly based on 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Her approach and her style met with the approval of Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954], who's the author of the original 1995 book edition of 'Wicked'. They likewise met with the approval of Stephen Lawrence Schwartz [b. March 6, 1948], who's the lyricist/composer for the performing arts version of Maguire's novel.
