density is mass divided by volume. when the same mass of an object has larger volume, i'ts density is relatively smaller. as in the case of a floating steel ship, the overall volume of the ship is large, making its density small. and you all know that if the density of an object is less than the density of water, the object will float.

Can you explain why a steel boat floats on water, but a steel block does not?

A steel boat floats on water because of its shape and displacement of water, which creates buoyancy. The boat's hollow structure allows it to displace enough water to counteract its weight, making it float. In contrast, a solid steel block is too dense and heavy to displace enough water to float.

How does a steel boat float in water?

A steel boat floats in water because of a principle called buoyancy. The weight of the water displaced by the boat is equal to the weight of the boat itself, allowing it to stay afloat. The steel hull of the boat is designed to displace enough water to support its weight and keep it from sinking.

How a boat made of steel float?

A boat made of steel floats because of the principle of buoyancy. When the boat displaces water that has a weight equal to or greater than the weight of the boat, it floats. The steel hull is designed to displace enough water to generate an upward force greater than the weight of the boat, keeping it afloat.

Why does a solid piece of clay sink while a clay boat can be made to float?

The clay boat (like a steel ship) displaces its own weight in the water. So, as long as the sides of the clay boat (or steel ship) is above the water level, it will float. A solid piece of clay will (like a stone) sink immediately.

Can a paper boat float?

Yes, a paper boat can float on water as long as it is well-made and the paper is not too thin. The boat's ability to float depends on its design and the displacement of water.

How does a steel boat float and a flat piece of steel with the same mass sinks?

There is air in the boat so the overall density is less. The weight is spread out.

How can wooden boat float on water but a steel boat will not?

If any object, placed on the water, weighs more than the total weight of the water it displaces, it will sink. Your Steel boat probably has a too thick hull, making it very heavy. A thinner hull, making the boat lighter, just might float your boat!

Does steel float on water?

It does if you spread it in to a boat or barge shape because other than that it will just sink.

Why a large boat is able to float considering that steel is denser than water?

caz it has less dens

Can you float a block of steel in water?

Not as long as it's still in the shape of a block. But if you re-shape it into the shape of a cup ... whether round or rectangular ... it will float, because it displaces much more water than a block does. If your cup-shape is done artistically and with care, people may call it what it looks like ... a little "boat" or "ship". Those objects are usually made out of re-shaped blocks of steel.

Will a boat float on liquid soap?

Yes the boat will float on liquid soap

How can a boat float and don't sink?

because the boat is made out of stuff that can float
