The fiberglass cast that reaches from the toes up to just below the knee weighs one and a half pounds. This answer was from a very experienced nurse at the Hospital for Special Surgery who replaced my cast yesterday (1/13/2012). I asked because I was on a diet and needed to monitor my weight. She said she'd weighed several of them and that's about what they all weighed. My cast was made with a layer of stockinette, a layer of soft cotton padding, a layer of plain fiberglass tape, and an outer layer of decorative fiberglass tape. I'm 5' 10" and weigh 160 lbs.

Depending on the requirements or applications that the flagpole is better fiberglass may be better. In general, fiberglass flagpoles and any object made of fiberglass will generally be more weather resistant, weigh less, and have the potential to be stronger then metal objects, but at the same time, these fiberglass objects may cost much more than the same objects made of metal.
