Turning off the lights does not actually save energy; energy not burned by the lights is simply run into the ground. It will save you $$, but not save energy. However, turning off the lights does send a market signal to electricity producers, informing them that current electricity production is too high (because it is being wasted) and decreasing future loads.
Conserve energy? It completely stops the use of it. How much more can you conserve?
update: Hopefully the person above is taking their own advice and not voting or reproducing :-) "It completely stops the use of [energy]?" No, it stops your use of it, but the energy company still burns it if you don't use it. Only when we stop using it on a large scale does the energy company not produce as much, and we then save. Turning off that light right now? Earth hour? Not saving the planet or any energy. Only if we do it ALL THE TIME.
If turning off one light in a series of lights causes all the lights to turn off, then they are likely connected in a combined circuit. In a combined circuit, the lights share the same pathway for electricity to flow, so interrupting the circuit at one light affects all the lights in the series.
Earth Hour is a global initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to raise awareness about climate change and environmental sustainability. Participants are encouraged to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to show support for tackling environmental issues and promoting energy conservation. Earth Hour symbolizes a collective effort to take action and protect the planet.
Students can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using public transportation, walking, biking, or carpooling instead of driving alone. They can also save energy by turning off lights when not in use, using energy-efficient appliances, and reducing water waste. Additionally, students can advocate for sustainability measures in their schools and communities to promote environmental awareness.
Using lights less uses less electricity. Most of the electricity that powers lights comes from power plants that burn fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is the largest contributor to air pollution.
Use public transportation or carpool to reduce individual vehicle emissions. Turn off lights and appliances when not in use to save energy. Insulate homes and use programmable thermostats to reduce heating and cooling needs. Choose energy-efficient appliances and vehicles to reduce fuel consumption. Support renewable energy sources like solar or wind power for electricity.
You don't save money when TV/Laptop, PC is on Standby both when it is turned on or Standby you save no Electricity.
well by turning it off you save about over 1000 volts which could power 2 lights
Savings is anything that you do to save money and time. You can save money in bank accounts and investments and you can save money everyday buy using coupons, turning off the lights, cancelling services you do not need etc.

Saving money on electricity is very easy. Turn lights off that you are not using. Keep lights off during the day. Turn the television off if nothing is on instead of flipping channels, do laundry after 6 p.m., turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
To save electricity.

To answer this question the total wattage of all the lights in the school must be added together. This total in watts will be in then changed to kilowatts by dividing by 1000. Take the kilowatts and multiply by the 32 hours that the lights would be shut off. Find out from the utility company what the school pays per kilowatt hour. Multiply that number by the answer you got when you multiplied the kilowatts by 32. This will give you the amount of money that would be saved by shutting the lights off for an hour for 32 weeks.
Turn things, such as the lights, off.
