The most common volume unit in the world today is the liter, but it's far from the only one in use. People still use measures that closely match the quantities of materials they dealt with, so you may hear of a cord of wood, a bale of cotton, a tun of wine, a flagon of ale, a pint of milk, a stere or a cubic yard of concrete, as well as a squirt of oil, a pinch of salt or a bushel of leaves.

Or...

The volume of any solid, liquid, gas, plasma, vacuum or theoretical object is how much three-dimensional space it occupies, often quantified numerically.

The volume can be measured in cubic meters, cubic centimeters, or liters.

The units of the three-dimensional volume depend on the units of length - if the lengths are in meters, the volume will be in cubic meters, etc.

To measure a square or cube: Volume = length times width times height.

if the lengths are measured in centimetres, then volume is measured in cubic centimtres (cm3).

If metres, then cubic metres (m3)

if feet, the cubic feet (ft3)

etc...Liters, cubic feet, cubic yards, cubic inches

Usually cm3 although sometimes, for example titration calculations in chemistry, you use dm3 (decimetre), which is the same as one litre
