velocity is the rate of displacement. That is velocity = displacement/time.

In kinematics there are number of expressions for velocity, some of them are

1) v = u + at 2) v^2 =u^ 2 + 2as , where u - initial velocity, v - final velocity, s - displacement and a - acceleration.
