The theme of the poem "palanquin bearers" by "sarojini naidu" is to reflect about the Indian marriages and their cultures. The poet has deliberatory used the contradictory feeling of laughing and weeping. The bride is sad and is crying as she is separated from her family.

A critical appreciation of the poem Palanquin Bearers by Sarojini Naidu.

In Palanquin-Bearers, Sarojini Naidu shows and describes the cultural and heritage beauty and feelings of a bride as well as feelings of the palanquin bearers . The poet evokes the magnificent day of brides which changes their life. The royal princess is not at all a burden for them but a privilege as she sits and dream for her future.

The 2nd part of the poem expresses the joy and pride of the palanquin bearers though I didn't like the parts where there were repetitions such as gaily O Gaily or lightly O lightly etc. The rhyme scheme of the poem was aa,bb,cc and so on. On the other hand there were literary devices that were also used such as similes-- like a flower in the wind or like a bird on the foam etc. alliteration such as she sways or she springs gave a very vibrant and a rhythmic outlook. A satisfactory line is "we bear her along like a pearl on the string " because it gave a very joyous feeling that the palanquin bearers showed too much care towards the bride
