Most, if not all, human behavior is based on the innate instincts common to all living things; survival, to support one's life; to defend one's life; to perpetuate (reproduce) one's life.

No matter how modern or how unrelated someone's behavior may seem, you can most likely trace that behavior back to these basic motives.

Bad behaviors from greediness to megalomania are aspects of survival; self esteem issues to racism can be based on the fear and mistrust of the unknown, an aspect of survival; and all the myriad of myths and actualities of relationships between the sexes are a result of the basic motivation to reproduce the species.

Good behaviors as well can directly or indirectly be aspects of these same innate traits and perhaps easier to recognize. Our family, friends and community help support us with comfort, security, and provide for our physical needs; good behavior toward others creates a safer environment in which to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and our livelihood; our desires to connect with someone and share the creation and nurturing of a new life are our means of perpetuating our lives.
