Status: Needs an answer. Fairly profound starting point and not easily moved on from. Of course to quote Nikolas Rose 'it is the happy state of psychology that it's work is always enlivened by and relevent to everyday life.' The discapline as a whole would probably claim to have enhanced many aspects of everyday life - from fairer job selection and educational testing to councelling and general wellbeing. However others argue that psychological knowledges are mainly centred at the level of the individual - which it takes for the subject of its study - and therefore inherently serves the dominant western ideologies of individualism and capitalism. However as Foucault might have argued every knowledge produced which exerts power also at once produces a site of resistance. So we end up where we started. What does psychology do to help one of us? The four goals of psychology (description, explanation, prediction, and control) help humanity by advancing our understanding of human behavior and mental processes. They contribute to improving mental health, treating psychopathology, and enhancing overall well-being. However, they may potentially hurt humanity if used unethically or in ways that violate individuals' rights or dignity.

Psychology seeks to uncover the underlying mechanisms that drive behavior and thought, ultimately aiming to improve individuals' quality of life and overall mental health.

Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. Anthropology is the study of humanity.
The four goals of psychology: describe behavior, understand behavior, predict behavior, and control behavior I believe can help humanity a great deal. We have to begin to understand how we behave in our everyday life has an effect on others. We much first learn the cause and effect of our own behavior before we can begin to study other people around us. Humanity cannot describe behavior unless they understand the behavior as a whole first. It is good to be able to predict ones behavior in order to make our reacting behaviors send the message we wish to send. I believe communication skills also fit into psychology because our behaviors also send messages, and you cannot describe, understand, predict or control a person's behavior without understanding and describing the nonverbal communication messages the behavior emits. We use the four goals of psychology in everyday life, and whether humanity as a whole realizes it or not, we are always predicting and trying to control ones behavior, but we cannot also describe or understand the behavior. Psychologists use the four goals to determine various personalities and personas and figure out better ways to deal with various patients.
