Traditionally Doctors and Teachers are highly respected. Politicians are usually respected and hated at the same time. Astronauts are usually respected just as scientists are because more often than not they do fit the "rocket scientist" role. Often non-profit organizations that work for the betterment of others and the planet are respected. In today's society people in professional sports often hold respect.

In addition, there is a lot of respect for people who put their lives in danger, or who have jobs that may require courage or bravery. Firefighters, Policemen, and Armed Services fall under this category.

Mainly things careers like doctors, lawyers, successful businessmen, actors are well respected but thats hard to get in to. Most of the top respected jobs get paid alot, so if the job pays well its likely to be respected (with the obvious exceptions of pornstar ect).
