They council, Volunteer, sit with the sick, help with events, do mission work, do classes for the engaged, married, baptisms, The priest can't do all the planning himself classes, council...etc, the catholic church has many and it takes many to keep it running and going smoothly. Nuns typically take care of preparing all the linens, flowers and special items that are placed on the alter in preparation for the Holy Mass. They also cook, clean, sew, wash and generally keep the church in proper order. Depending on their talents, many nuns teach and frequently participate in the musical portion of the Mass by singing or creating the musical support for the choir. Over the years, nuns have gained more freedon and often travel to attend seminars or just to broaden their knowledge of world events. Nuns are dedicated to serving the church and are some of the most interesting individuals once you get to know them. There are exceptions to all of the things mentioned, but that is true in any vocation. After all, they are still human and most of all, women at heart.

Buddhists Monks and Nuns dedicated their life to attaining enlightenment and service to others whereas lay people have jobs and families while practicing Buddhism. Therefore, when it comes to lay Buddhists, we were whatever we want as appropriate to the situation (work versus play, etc). Monks and Nuns typically wear robes.
