Why did Henry VIII need money urgently?

Henry needed money because he spent all the country's money on fine clothing, buildings and paintings. He also spent money on the wars against Scotland and France. By the early 1530's Henry had made England bankrupt but he knew the church was rich. In those days monasteries owned 25% of the good land in England and the wealth from these building could solve Henry's financial problems.

Henry needed money from a war with France and by being head of the church he could use the Catholic's money and land to pay for his war. So basically he used all the money on wars that's why he didn't have any money left.

Reports proved that many priests and monkes were greedy and sinful (although some did live very simple, Holy lives) The monastries were very wealthy. They owned huge ares of land in England and collected rents from these lands. They also had beautiful treasurs made of gold ad silver. The reason why Henry was short of money is simple. The church and monastries had moast of the money -practicaly all of it!

He wanted to invade France because he wanted to reclaim the lands that were once ruled by English Kings, and he wanted to gain a reputation as a great war hero. He got more money by confiscating lands from treasonous nobles and by taking the plate and lands of the monasteries.
