It is the rapid and unchecked influx of migrants, usually but not exclusively, internal, into a city. Hyper-urbanisation usually occurs in the wold's megacities (10 million plus) most notably in the developing world where the infrastructure cannot cope with the large intake of residents. The most vulnerable are left on the periphery with few resources or access to employment. Rather than a push towards betterment and progression hyperurbanisation has resulted in slum settlemement, pollution issues and a very real difficulty in givernments to deal with their growing cities. For the most part these added inhabitants are often ignored; an invisible population with no real support or future.
